Putting Passion Into Action

WalkAmerica is almost here, and there's still time to register! Now is the perfect time to show off your passion and talent by raising funds, heightening awareness, and recruiting volunteers in your community.
No matter where you live or go to school, everyone has one thing in common…we have a voice and we can use it! Most people want to volunteer their time. They just need you to ask for their help! Think about all the people you know. How can you get them involved with the March of Dimes?
Tips on Raising Awareness for WalkAmerica:
• Use flyers, posters, banners, sidewalk chalk, awareness tables or any other publicity that can be created to get attention • Post an ad for WalkAmerica on your school Web site or in the school newspaper • Present WalkAmerica as a community service project to clubs and organizations in your school
• Pass out preemie diapers (ask your local March of Dimes office) to show students exactly why we are walking
• Contact local businesses asking for their support • Ask places of worship to send around a second offering for March of Dimes
• Finally, use your creativity! Do whatever you can think of to get people's attention! Let people know why they should support the March of Dimes, to help every baby be born healthy!
Just as the thousands of youth rallied together to help defeat polio, today, youth are making incredible strides in the fight to save babies. Last year 11-year-old Milya, our Top Youth Walker, raised $27,000 for WalkAmerica! This shows you exactly what we are capable of when we put our minds to it!
Let’s go out there, share the mission with everyone we meet and get the country talking about WalkAmerica and what we can do for the growing problems of premature birth and birth defects.
Youth can make a difference and are making that difference every day! Thank you for your dedication! Good luck and have a happy, healthy WalkAmerica!

Key Club members raised $96,000 for the March of Dimes in 2006! With more than 250,000 members around the nation living the Key Club motto, Caring—Our Way of Life, many babies are benefiting from the work of this great organization.
Every season, Key Club members direct their volunteer and fundraising efforts to a specific organization, and the spring season is the March of Dimes - right in time for WalkAmerica! In 2003, Key Club adopted a fundraising project designed specifically for the March of Dimes: “Time for Change.”
The “Time for Change” campaign allows Key Club members to collect coins for the March of Dimes using miniature cardboard “banks” and buckets. In past years, Key Club has raised nearly $40,000 with “Time for Change!”
Key Club members are also actively preparing for WalkAmerica, forming teams within their clubs and bringing a contagious spirit to the walk sites. From collecting a Mile of Dimes, holding bake sales, and participating in Time for Change, to selling March of Dimes boots, plush bears, and bracelets, Key Club members have repeatedly excelled as March of Dimes fundraisers!
With the introduction of the March of Dimes Teen-2-Teen health education series, Key Clubs can now use these materials with their 2006-2008 Service Initiative - High Five for Health - to educate children about nutrition and wellness. Way to go Key Club!
